Coroner Report Reveals Lisa Marie Presley's Cause of Death as Small Bowel Obstruction Following Bariatric Surgery

Lisa Marie Presley died from complications of bariatric surgery.

Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley and a renowned singer, songwriter, and heir, passed away at the age of 54. The cause of her death, which occurred on January 12, was determined to be complications from bariatric surgery she had undergone several years prior. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner released an autopsy report on Thursday, revealing that Presley's death was a result of natural causes stemming from a small bowel obstruction.

According to the report, the complication Presley experienced is a common occurrence following bariatric surgery, a weight loss procedure often performed when other methods have been unsuccessful or when there are underlying medical conditions. Prior to her passing, Presley had been taken to a Los Angeles hospital after paramedics responded to a 911 call reporting a woman in cardiac arrest at her home. At the time, the cause of her medical emergency was not disclosed.

Presley had been experiencing stomach pain earlier in the day, as stated in the autopsy report. She was laid to rest at Graceland, her childhood home, on January 22. Graceland has since become a museum, attracting tourists and serving as a shrine for Elvis fans.

Lisa Marie Presley is survived by her three daughters, Riley Keough, a 34-year-old actor known for her role in "Daisy Jones & the Six," and 15-year-old twins, Harper and Finley Lockwood. Tragically, her son Benjamin Keough passed away in 2020.

Following Presley's death, a legal battle over her estate seemed imminent. However, just four days after her funeral, her mother, Priscilla Presley, filed court documents contesting a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie's living trust. The amendment had removed Priscilla and a former business manager as trustees and replaced them with Lisa Marie's two eldest children. Eventually, Priscilla and Riley Keough reached a settlement in May.

In a recent development, Riley Keough received her first Emmy nomination for her outstanding performance in "Daisy Jones & the Six," being recognized in the category of best actress in a limited series or TV movie.
