Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis apologize for supporting Danny Masterson in new letters

Kunis and Kutcher apologize for supporting Masterson in sexual assault case, emphasize support for victims.

In 2003, two attacks allegedly occurred at Danny Masterson's home in the Hollywood area while he was starring in That '70s Show. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, who married in 2015, gained fame from the same sitcom, which revolved around teenagers navigating the challenges of the 1970s.

In an Instagram video posted on 45-year-old Kutcher's account, he acknowledged the pain caused by the character letters they wrote on behalf of Masterson. He explained that Masterson's family had approached them a few months ago and asked for character letters to be submitted to the judge for consideration during the sentencing process. Kutcher emphasized that the letters were intended solely for the judge's review and were not meant to undermine the victims' testimonies or retraumatize them. He expressed regret if any unintended harm had occurred.

According to the Associated Press, Kutcher's letter, dated July 27, described Masterson as a man who treated people with decency, equality, and generosity. Kunis, 40, emphasized their support for victims, stating that they have historically advocated for them through their work and will continue to do so in the future. She clarified that the purpose of the letters was not to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the jury's ruling. Kunis expressed empathy for all individuals who have experienced sexual assault, abuse, or rape.

In her letter to Judge Charlaine F Olmedo of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Kunis referred to Masterson as an outstanding role model, friend, and exceptional older brother figure. Masterson, along with Topher Grace and Laura Prepon, also starred in That '70s Show from 1998 to 2006. The cast members, including Grace, Prepon, Kunis, and Kutcher, reprised their roles in the Netflix series That '90s Show, released in 2023.

Kutcher and Masterson also acted together in the American sitcom The Ranch until Masterson's departure from the show following the revelation of an LAPD investigation in 2017.

During the court proceedings before Masterson's sentencing, the Los Angeles Superior Court heard statements from the women who were attacked by the 47-year-old, detailing their trauma and pain. After seven days of deliberations, a jury consisting of seven women and five men found Masterson guilty of two counts on May 31.
