Pep Guardiola's Expectations from Liverpool in the Premier League This Season

Pep Guardiola has shared his thoughts on the potential of Liverpool mounting a title challenge this season. The Reds have consistently posed a significant challenge to Guardiola's Manchester City since his arrival in England. They not only snatched the league title away from City in the 2019/20 season but also pushed them until the final day on two other occasions.

Last season was an exception, as Liverpool finished in fifth place, well behind the leaders. However, when asked about the possibility of last year's runners-up, Arsenal, challenging again, Guardiola also mentioned Liverpool as contenders.

"Absolutely [Arsenal are contenders], among Liverpool from what I've seen," remarked the Spaniard.

However, Guardiola emphasized that it is important to assess the title contenders after the first 10 games have been played. With less than 10 games completed so far, it is necessary to exercise patience. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the big clubs will always be contenders, and Arsenal is certainly one of them.

At the beginning of the season, not many Liverpool fans would have predicted a title challenge. Just two seasons ago, the Reds came agonizingly close to winning all four major trophies. However, after a disappointing year, expectations have been tempered.

Despite this, Liverpool's successful summer transfer window and strong start to the season have potentially changed the narrative. Although they missed an opportunity to claim the top spot last weekend, Liverpool have demonstrated enough quality to be considered genuine contenders.

Despite the departure of several experienced players, the Reds still possess a considerable number of individuals who have tasted success with City on three occasions. This experience could prove invaluable as they aim to surpass Arsenal as the primary threat to the reigning champions.
