Philadelphia Phillies strong start fades Atlanta Braves surge late NLDS

Atlanta Braves stage remarkable comeback to defeat Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 in Game 2 of National League Division Series.

The Atlanta Braves pulled off an incredible comeback in Game 2 of the National League Division Series, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 and leveling the series at one game apiece. Despite being down by four runs, the Braves rallied late in the game to secure the victory.

One of the key players in the Braves' win was Austin Riley, who delivered a game-changing two-run homer in the eighth inning. With Ronald Acuna Jr. on third base, Riley stepped up and hit a clutch two-out home run to left field off Phillies pitcher Jeff Hoffman.

Throughout the game, the Braves had struggled to find their rhythm at the plate, managing just four hits. However, they capitalized on their opportunities when it mattered most, ultimately securing the win.

Travis d'Arnaud also made a significant contribution to the Braves' offense with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, narrowing the gap between the two teams.

On the pitching side, the Phillies had a strong start from Zack Wheeler, who kept the Braves hitless until late in the game. Wheeler recorded an impressive 10 strikeouts, tying a postseason record for the Phillies. He was eventually replaced after giving up three runs (two earned) and three hits over 6 1/3 innings.

In the ninth inning, with the game hanging in the balance, a dramatic defensive play sealed the victory for the Braves. With Bryce Harper on first base and one out, Nick Castellanos hit a deep fly ball to right-center field. Braves center fielder Michael Harris II made an incredible leaping catch while crashing into the fence. Harper, who had already rounded second base, was caught off guard and doubled off first base, effectively ending the game.

With the series now tied at one game each, all eyes are on Game 3, which will take place in Philadelphia. Both teams will be eager to gain the upper hand in this crucial third game of the series.
