"Lost In Space" Actor Mark Goddard Dies At 87

Mark Goddard, known for his role in "Lost in Space," has passed away at 87. Fans mourn the loss of the talented actor.

Mark Goddard, a beloved actor known for his role as Don West in the iconic 1960s sci-fi series "Lost in Space," has sadly passed away at the age of 87. His wife, Evelyn Pezzulich, confirmed the news of his death due to pulmonary fibrosis in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Goddard, originally named Charles Harvey Goddard, began his acting career in the late 1950s and quickly made a name for himself on television. He appeared in various series, including the Western drama "Johnny Ringo" and the crime-themed show "The Detectives." However, it was his portrayal of Don West in "Lost in Space" that truly solidified his place in television history.

"Lost in Space," which premiered in 1965, followed the adventures of the Robinson family as they navigated their way through space after being stranded due to sabotage. Goddard's character, Don West, along with a loyal robot, accompanied the family on their perilous journey to find their way back to Earth. The show enjoyed a successful three-season run from 1965 to 1968.

Billy Mumy, who played Will Robinson in the series, paid a heartfelt tribute to his late co-star on Facebook. Mumy reflected on their 59-year-long friendship and shared their final words, expressing their love for each other. He also praised Goddard's talent as an actor and acknowledged that, despite the show's campy style, Goddard embraced and loved it.

In addition to his time on "Lost in Space," Goddard made a memorable cameo appearance alongside his co-stars June Lockhart, Angela Cartwright, and Marta Kristen in the 1998 film adaptation of the series. Matt LeBlanc took on the role of Don West in the film.

Goddard's contribution to the world of entertainment will forever be cherished by fans of the beloved sci-fi series. His passion for sports, particularly his love for the Boston Celtics, was also well-known. Mumy fondly recalled their friendly banter over their differing sports team allegiances.

As we mourn the loss of Mark Goddard, we can imagine him finding solace in a better place, enjoying a martini with his departed colleagues from the show. His legacy as Don West and his impact on the world of television will be remembered fondly.
