SZA leads the 66th Grammy Awards with nine nominations. Female acts outperformed their male counterparts. New categories include best pop dance recording.

SZA is on fire, with nine nominations for the 66th Grammy Awards, making her the top contender. Her song "Kill Bill" and her album "SOS" are both up for multiple awards, with "Kill Bill" earning nods for record of the year, song of the year, and best R&B performance. SZA is also up for album of the year and best progressive R&B album for "SOS."

The 2024 Grammy nominations show a trend of female acts outperforming their male counterparts, with leading nominees including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and Olivia Rodrigo. The Recording Academy CEO and President Harvey Mason Jr. expressed his happiness at the number of women nominees, believing that representation allows the next group of creators to see the nominees and feel inspired to express themselves.

SZA is also nominated for best traditional R&B performance, best R&B song, best melodic rap performance, and best pop duo/group performance, with Phoebe Bridgers, who has seven nominations, including best new artist. Bridgers' band boygenius is also nominated for six awards.

Other artists with six nominations include Swift, Rodrigo, Cyrus, Eilish, Brandy Clark, Batiste, and producer Jack Antonoff. The best new artist category includes Gracie Abrams, Fred again.., Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, and The War and Treaty.

The album of the year category features Batiste, boygenius, Cyrus, Rodrigo, Swift, and SZA, as well as Lana Del Rey's "Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd" and Janelle Monae's "The Age of Pleasure." The song of the year category includes tracks from Del Rey, Swift, Batiste, Cyrus, SZA, Rodrigo, and two tracks from the "Barbie" soundtrack.

The 2024 Grammy Awards will air live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 4. The nominations highlight the need for more representation of Latin and country musicians in the main categories, and the addition of new categories for best pop dance recording, best African music performance, and best alternative jazz album. Overall, the nominations reflect the diversity and talent of the music industry in the past year.
