Roger Waters, the co-founder of Pink Floyd, has reportedly been rejected by hotels in Argentina and Uruguay due to accusations of antisemitism related to his pro-Palestinian views. Waters was scheduled to stay in Buenos Aires ahead of his "This is Not a Drill" tour, but hotels cited lack of availability, while hotels in Montevideo, Uruguay also refused to host him without providing a reason. As a result, Waters was still in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he had recently performed. The president of the Central Israelite Committee of Uruguay, Roby Schindler, sent a letter to the Sofitel hotel urging it not to host Waters, accusing him of using his fame to spread hatred towards Israel and Jews. Waters has faced accusations of antisemitism for years, including criticism from the U.S. government, which accused him of using antisemitic tropes. Waters vehemently denies these accusations, attributing them to his belief in human rights and his outspokenness about the genocide of the Palestinian people. He also criticized the Israeli government for exaggerating the recent attack by Hamas militants, accusing them of inventing stories about beheading babies. This situation highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding Waters' pro-Palestinian activism and the impact it has had on his ability to travel and perform in certain countries.
