Zac Efron Tribute Matthew Perry Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

Zac Efron receives Hollywood Walk of Fame star, gives touching tribute to Matthew Perry. Miles Teller also mentions Perry's casting wish.

On Monday, Zac Efron, known for his role in High School Musical, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the motion pictures category. The actor was joined by his The Iron Claw co-star Jeremy Allen White and the film's director, Sean Durkin, for the ceremony.

During the event, both Jeremy and Sean delivered speeches, but it was Zac's speech that stood out as he paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Matthew Perry, who passed away in October of this year. Zac and Matthew had previously worked together on the 2009 movie 17 Again, where they portrayed the adult and teen versions of each other, respectively.

In his speech, Zac expressed his gratitude for the guidance and support Matthew provided him during the filming of 17 Again. He credited Matthew and the film's director, Bur Steers, for motivating and propelling him into the next chapter of his career.

"I really also want to mention someone that's not here today, and that's Matthew Perry, who was so kind and generous with me while we worked on 17 Again," Zac said in a speech recorded by Variety. "Collaborating with him and Bur Steers, it was so much fun, and it really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career, and for that, thank you so much, Matthew."

Zac concluded his speech by expressing that he was thinking about Matthew, before looking up at the sky.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Tonight, Zac had expressed his honor at the idea of Matthew Perry wanting him to play him in a biopic. "I heard that, and it's a huge honor. Matthew [was] just the best guy in the world. I had the best time of my life working with him, and to think that he was thinking of me for that role," Zac said.

Miles Teller, another actor, also mentioned Matthew's casting wish at the Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony. "I know how much that meant to you. He is one of the all-time greats," Miles said at the event.

Overall, the ceremony was a touching and emotional tribute to Zac Efron's career and the impact that Matthew Perry had on his life. It was a reminder of the lasting impact that friendships and collaborations in the entertainment industry can have.
