However, the victory against Villarreal came at a cost, as two new casualties have further depleted the squad. Austrian center back David Alaba suffered a torn cruciate ligament that will keep him off the field for at least seven months, while Frenchman Ferland Mendy sustained a small muscle injury that will sideline him for ten days.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his disappointment, stating, "It's a shame and we are very sad about it. He is another player who falls. It has never happened to me to have three cruciates in four months, it is incredible."

In light of these injuries, Ancelotti mentioned that they will explore options in the winter market to reinforce the central position in the team, as they currently only have German Antonio Rüdiger and Spaniard Nacho Fernández as healthy players in that position.
