Family and co-worker of slain cinematographer Halyna Hutchins welcome the upcoming criminal trial of Alec Baldwin after involuntary manslaughter charges.

The family and co-worker of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was tragically shot and killed on the set of the movie "Rust," have expressed their support for the upcoming criminal trial of Alec Baldwin. The New Mexico grand jury has charged the actor with involuntary manslaughter for his role in the deadly shooting, and the family and co-worker welcome the pursuit of truth and accountability in the criminal justice system.

The attorney for the family and co-worker, Gloria Allred, released a statement expressing their ongoing quest for the truth regarding the tragic incident that took place on October 21, 2021. They have filed a civil lawsuit seeking accountability and justice, and they are hopeful for a fair and just criminal trial.

During the rehearsal of "Rust," Baldwin pointed a prop gun in the direction of Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza, which accidentally discharged, resulting in Hutchins' death and Souza's injury. Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger, but a firearms expert brought in by prosecutors reported that the trigger had to have been pulled to discharge the weapon.

This indictment is the second time Baldwin has been charged in Hutchins' death. The initial charges were filed by Santa Fe County District Attorney Mark Carmack-Altwies against Baldwin and the film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed. However, the case was taken over by special prosecutors Morrissey and Lewis, who dropped the charges due to "new facts" that required further investigation.

Gutierrez Reed is scheduled to face trial for the involuntary manslaughter charges against her, and the legal representation for Hutchins' family and co-worker is hopeful for justice to be served in the criminal trial. They have also filed lawsuits alleging battery and negligence against Baldwin and other producers and members of the production.
