World Earth Day educational institutions J&K observes

Educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir mark World Earth Day with workshops, symposiums, tree plantation drives, and cleanliness campaigns.

Today, various educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir came together to observe World Earth Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices.

At the School of Life Sciences and Department of Chemistry at Central University of Kashmir (CUK), a workshop was organized on the theme "Planet vs Plastics" at the Science campus-Nunar. Dr. Chinnappan Baskar, the Head of Chemistry, highlighted the importance of protecting the earth from hazardous pollution, while Prof. Abid Hamid Dar, the Dean of the School of Life Sciences, described plastic pollution as a major threat to the planet. Faculty members discussed the impact of plastic pollution on plant and animal health.

MIER College of Education hosted an inter-college symposium on "The Impact of Over Tourism on the Environment" to mark World Earth Day. The event drew participation from nine colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, with a total of 17 participants. The importance of sustainable practices was emphasized by the Principal, urging students to embrace eco-friendly activities.

Sant Mela Singh College also organized a symposium on the theme of Earth Day, focusing on the importance of environmental conservation. Under the supervision of Prof. Anju Sudan, the program highlighted the significance of World Earth Day and the need for betterment of our environment.

Shikshit Bharat, 2 J&K Girls Battalion, and the Department of Environmental Science celebrated Earth Day by raising awareness among students and communities surrounding the college campus. Various activities were organized, including Poster Making and Slogan Writing, to engage students in environmental conservation efforts.

National College of Education in Purkhoo Camp organized a tree plantation drive to educate students on the importance of trees in preserving the environment. The students actively participated in the drive, gaining a sense of purpose and ownership in contributing to a greener planet.

GDC Udhampur observed Earth Day with a cleanliness drive, slogan writing competition, and interactive lectures to educate students on the significance of the day. Principal Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta emphasized the importance of environmental conservation to the students.

At GDC for Women Kathua, a documentary on Plastic Pollution in India was screened, followed by a Slogan cum Poster Making Competition on the theme "Planet vs Plastics." Dr. Savi Behl urged the adoption of recyclable carry bags to reduce plastic pollution.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi organized a programme at Government High School Tanda to educate school children and teachers on the protection of planet Earth and the impact of plastic pollution. KVK scientists emphasized the importance of community participation in environmental protection.

Health and Sanitation officials visited KC Public School to interact with members of the Environmental Club and emphasize the role of citizens in waste management. A 'nukkad natak' was presented to raise awareness about environmental issues.

Humanity Public School in Bari Brahmana held a special assembly to remind students of their responsibility towards Mother Earth, with speeches, poems, and a skit performed by students.

Hermann Gmeiner School in Jammu organized an environmental awareness rally and activities to spread the message of preserving and keeping our surroundings clean. Principal Mukesh Thakur guided the students in raising awareness about the importance of Earth Day.
