Manchester United could hand Manchester City Premier League title in fresh twist

Man City closes in on Premier League title as Arsenal's slip-up could see them crowned champions with two games to spare.

On Sunday, Manchester City may have been hoping for a favor from Tottenham as they faced Arsenal in the North London Derby. However, the Gunners managed to withstand a Spurs comeback and secured a 3-2 win, moving four points ahead of City at the top of the table. In response, City secured a win against Nottingham Forest, cutting the gap back to a point. Pep Guardiola's side still has a game in hand, coincidentally against Spurs in the final week of the campaign.

With four games left to play, City knows that four wins will secure a fourth-straight Premier League title. However, dropped points for Arsenal before that could see City crowned champions sooner. The question now is, when is the earliest City can win the title?

To secure the title, City needs Arsenal to drop points. Arsenal's next fixture is on May 4 against Bournemouth. If Arsenal faces defeat against the Cherries, they would be on 80 points with two games left and a maximum points tally of 86. City could climb above Arsenal to 82 points with three games left if they beat Wolves at home on the same day.

Looking ahead to May 11, City could move five points clear on 85 points if they defeat Fulham in the early kick-off at Craven Cottage. Arsenal will then face Manchester United at Old Trafford on May 12. If Arsenal drops points in that game, City will be crowned champions.

In summary, if Arsenal takes none or one point from their next two games and City wins both of theirs, City will be champions with two matches to spare. If both teams win all their remaining games before the final day, City would enter their clash with West Ham two points above Arsenal. They would only need to match Arsenal's result to be crowned champions at the Etihad. If City draws and Arsenal wins, they would be level on points, but Arsenal's goal difference is significantly ahead of City's.
