Colleen Ballinger rebuts allegations through a song, denouncing them as part of a 'destructive rumor mill'

YouTube star Colleen Ballinger addresses allegations of inappropriate relationships with fans.

YouTube star Colleen Ballinger, widely known for her alter ego Miranda Sings, has broken her silence on allegations of engaging in inappropriate relationships with underage fans. In a 10-minute video titled "hi," Ballinger addresses the backlash she has faced and sings an original song while strumming a ukulele. She acknowledges that there are false rumors circulating about her and questions the entertainment value of spreading misinformation. Ballinger, 36, gained fame for her satirical character Miranda Sings, who became known for her unconventional singing style and lack of self-awareness. With over 22 million subscribers across various YouTube channels and a Netflix show, Ballinger has a dedicated fan base that has been following her for over a decade. However, some fans are now grappling with their own guilt for supporting her and reevaluating their engagement with fandoms. Videos from Ballinger's recent tour stop in Indianapolis appear to show fans booing her, although the authenticity of these videos has not been independently verified. Ballinger is currently on tour through the fall. The allegations against Ballinger first emerged in 2020 when YouTuber Adam McIntyre claimed that she had formed an inappropriate personal friendship with him when he was between the ages of 13 and 16, including sending him lingerie as a joke. Ballinger responded to some of McIntyre's allegations in a video at the time. McIntyre's allegations resurfaced recently after another YouTuber, KodeeRants, accused him of lying in 2020 and made a video alleging that Ballinger privately shared screenshots of messages with McIntyre in a group chat called "Colleeny's Weenies." These screenshots, displayed in now-deleted videos, show Ballinger making inappropriate comments. Ballinger has not yet responded to these recent allegations. In her video, Ballinger admits to making jokes in poor taste and mistakes but denies being a groomer or predator. McIntyre responded to her video in a livestream, expressing disbelief and claiming that he did not receive a direct or public apology from Ballinger. He stated that he would not remain silent on the matter. Ballinger's video quickly gained attention, amassing over 30,000 views and 10,000 comments within an hour of being posted. Her name trended on Twitter, and the video sparked various reactions online, with some expressing support for Ballinger and others criticizing her for dismissing the allegations.
