NFL Week 4 Monday Night Football: Seahawks Lead Giants Early, Drew Lock Steps in for Injured Geno Smith

The New York Giants struggle in their game against the Seattle Seahawks, continuing their poor performance this season.

The 2022 NFL season brought us one of the most remarkable Cinderella stories, but it seems that the magic has faded for the New York Giants in 2023. Compared to their impressive nine-win performance last year, the Giants have been struggling to find their footing this fall, and Monday night's game was no exception.

Facing off against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4, the Giants were hoping for a favorable matchup against a middle-of-the-road opponent. However, the Seahawks quickly took control of the game, establishing a commanding 14-3 lead by halftime in their "Monday Night Football" showdown at MetLife Stadium. The first quarter saw Seattle's Geno Smith connect with DK Metcalf for a 6-yard touchdown pass, a play that was made possible by Mario Edwards stripping Daniel Jones and forcing a fumble.

Unfortunately, the game was marred by penalties and injuries right from the start. After suffering a torn quadriceps tendon in Week 1 of the previous season, Jamal Adams made his highly anticipated return to the field on Monday night. However, Adams' comeback was cut short as he was ruled out due to a concussion after taking a knee to the helmet early in the game. Adding to the injury woes, Smith also found himself in the medical tent just before halftime following a hard tackle from behind by Isaiah Simmons. Clearly frustrated, Smith voiced his displeasure over the hit.

With Smith temporarily out of the game, backup quarterback Drew Lock stepped in and made an impact. Lock connected with tight end Noah Fant for an impressive 51-yard gain up the sidelines, setting the stage for Kenneth Walker to score a touchdown in the final minutes of the half.

The Giants' struggles in the first half have been a recurring theme this season, as they have been outscored 77-9 before halftime. In fact, they are the only team in the entire league that has yet to score a touchdown in the first half.

Smith made his return to the game after halftime, hoping to rally his team and turn the tide.
