Officer-involved shooting Kansas City Kansas

KBI investigates officer-involved shooting at Kansas City apartment complex. Suspect arrested, witnesses asked to call 1-800-KS-CRIME. Viral: KBI investigation.

Early Monday morning, an officer-involved shooting took place at an apartment complex in Kansas City, Kansas, prompting an investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) at the request of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD).

The KBI responded to the request and dispatched agents and a Crime Scene Response Team to the scene. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred when a citizen called 911 at approximately 2:55 a.m. to report gunfire in the parking lot of an apartment complex near 61 St. and Leavenworth Rd. Upon arrival, KCKPD officers observed a man with a rifle leaning out of a window on the second floor of an apartment building. The man, identified as 21-year-old Dominic A. M. V. Lee, pointed the rifle at a responding officer, prompting the officer to fire one round at Lee, striking him in the shoulder.

Following the shooting, officers entered the apartment and apprehended Lee without further incident. Lee was then transported to a Kansas City hospital for treatment of his injuries. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the confrontation.

After being released from the hospital, Lee was immediately arrested on a warrant for aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and was subsequently booked into the Wyandotte County Jail. It is important to note that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The KBI has urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and provide any relevant information by calling 1-800-KS-CRIME. The KBI has also assured that a thorough and independent investigation will be conducted, with the findings to be presented to the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office for review.
