Petr Cech criticises Chelsea star Djordje Petrovic for error against Crystal Palace
Petr Cech criticizes Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic for not preventing Crystal Palace from taking the lead in Monday's match.
Petr Cech has expressed his belief that Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic could have done more to prevent Crystal Palace from taking the lead in their recent clash at Selhurst Park. Palace midfielder Jefferson Lerma scored a stunning goal from distance to put the home side ahead in the first half. Gary Neville criticized three Chelsea players, including defender Thiago Silva, for their role in the goal, particularly Silva's "strange" clearance. Cech, however, argued that Petrovic should take some responsibility for Lerma's goal, suggesting that he could have been positioned higher to close the angle and potentially make a save.
In addition to discussing the match, Cech also gave his opinion on Chelsea under co-owner Todd Boehly, who took over from Roman Abramovich in May 2022. He appeared to criticize Boehly, suggesting that the American has made too many changes to the squad and has spent large sums of money on transfers, increasing the pressure on the team. Chelsea has indeed spent over £1 billion on players in the Boehly era, including significant deals for Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
This criticism comes amidst other controversies, such as Jamie Carragher's comments on Thiago Silva's wife and Bayern Munich's last-minute bid to sign Chelsea flop Mykhailo Mudryk in the January transfer window. Additionally, Manchester United has apologized for removing a club legend from his seat at Old Trafford.
