When we say 'cancel culture', it refers to the practice of withdrawing support for (or cancelling) public figures, celebrities, movies, television shows - essentially anyone or anything that has said or done something considered offensive. The rippling impact is serious stuff indeed!
A lot of us are perplexed: Isn't freedom of speech one of our vital rights as individuals? Why then does cancel culture seem so rampant? Confusing isn't it?
In our digital era where every move is scrutinized under 280 character tweets and viral Instagram stories; lines blur between holding someone accountable and public shaming. As omnipresent keyboards warriors wield immense power through #hashtags, people often find themselves on thin ice. So, should we view this as an upgraded version of personal accountability checks or just another Internet trial method?
