15-year-old suspect in Juneteenth shooting apprehended by Milwaukee police

15-year-old boy arrested as lone gunman in Milwaukee shooting.

In a recent development, Milwaukee police have announced the arrest of a 15-year-old boy who they believe to be the sole perpetrator of a shooting that occurred after a Juneteenth celebration, resulting in six people being wounded. This young suspect is the third individual to be apprehended in connection with the incident, which took place outside the Greater Philadelphia Church of God in Christ. However, authorities have not disclosed any details about the teenager, including the reasons behind their belief that he acted alone.

Prior to this arrest, two males aged 17 and 19 had already been taken into custody. Interestingly, both of these individuals had sustained gunshot wounds themselves. Initially, law enforcement believed that one of them had discharged a firearm, but clarification was provided on Thursday, stating that this is no longer the case.

Of the six victims injured in the shooting, four were girls or women aged between 14 and 18 years old. Fortunately, all of them are expected to survive their injuries. According to police, the investigation suggests that the shooting was a result of a confrontation between young women outside the church.

The aftermath of the incident was captured in a Facebook Live video, which showcased paramedics attending to individuals with gunshot wounds on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Merely 20 minutes prior, this very street had been filled with thousands of people who had gathered for the city's Juneteenth festival.

The Milwaukee police and fire officials are actively investigating the shooting, which occurred on Monday, June 19, 2023. The incident has prompted a response from Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, who addressed the media during a press conference held outside the Milwaukee Police Department District 5 station. Police Chief Jeffrey Norman also stood alongside the mayor during the briefing.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence and the need for effective measures to ensure the safety and security of communities, particularly during celebratory occasions. As the investigation progresses, authorities will continue their efforts to bring justice to the victims and their families, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
