Battery probe launched following incident involving Britney Spears and NBA's Victor Wembanyama
Britney Spears files police report after alleged altercation with security.
Britney Spears has reportedly been involved in an altercation with a member of Victor Wembanyama's security team while requesting a photo with the San Antonio Spurs' top draft pick. The incident occurred at the Catch restaurant in the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Spears promptly filed a police report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on Wednesday, detailing the alleged incident. According to law enforcement officials, the police report has been documented, but no arrests or citations have been made at this time. The Los Angeles Times has also filed a public records request to obtain a copy of the police report.
As of now, the San Antonio Spurs have not provided any comments on the matter. Spears was accompanied by her husband, Sam Asghari, and two others when she entered the casino and was surrounded by fans. Inside the restaurant, she noticed Wembanyama, the 7-foot-4 French basketball sensation, and approached him for a photo. TMZ reports that Damian Smith, the Spurs' director of team security, allegedly backhanded Spears, causing her to fall to the ground and knocking her glasses off. Smith was reportedly unaware of Spears' identity.
Following the incident, Smith apologized to Spears, and she accepted his apology. However, police were called to the scene, and Spears proceeded to file a police report. Upon reviewing security camera footage, officers discovered that Smith had pushed away Spears' hand, and it was her own hand that had struck her face, not Smith's.
Authorities are treating the incident as a criminal investigation and are scheduled to meet with Spears on Thursday to discuss the matter further.
