With an impressive world-leading time of 10.71 seconds in the first round, Richardson followed it up with a stellar performance of 10.75 seconds in the semifinals on Thursday. These times were the fastest of the entire weekend, setting her up for an exciting final.

The anticipation reached its peak as Richardson lined up for the final race. Despite a less-than-ideal start, she still managed to clock an impressive time of 10.85 seconds. This time surpassed any other American's performance in 2023, solidifying her status as the best in the country. Richardson's outstanding win and remarkable times have earned her a spot on Team USA, where she will compete in Budapest in August.

The LSU Tigers also made their mark in the women's 100-meter hurdle group. Tonea Marshall showcased her talent in heat one, securing an auto-qualification with a time of 12.58 seconds. Alia Armstrong followed suit in heat three, taking second place and securing her own auto-qualification with a time of 12.80 seconds. Both athletes will advance to the semifinals, which will take place on Saturday at 8:02 p.m. CT.

Terrance Laird, who had taken a year off due to injury, made a remarkable comeback in the 100-meter race. In his first USATF Outdoor Championship, Laird finished in 8th place with a time of 10.18 seconds in the final. His journey is far from over, as he is set to compete in the men's 200-meter first round on Saturday at 6:43 p.m.

The promising incoming freshman, Taylor Fingers, showcased her skills in the U20 portion of the USA Championships. She secured a bronze medal in the girl's triple jump, tying her personal-best distance of 12.74 meters (41' 9.75'') on her final attempt. Fingers demonstrated significant improvement from last year, where she finished in 8th place in the U20 triple jump competition. She will continue to compete this weekend, participating in the U20 long jump on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
