'Quarterback': Netflix's fresh docuseries chronicles the lives of three NFL signal-callers: Ways to tune in
Netflix's docuseries "Quarterback" follows the lives of NFL quarterbacks.
Netflix is delving deep into the lives of three NFL quarterbacks in their new docuseries "Quarterback." This eight-part series, produced in collaboration with NFL Films and Peyton Manning's production company, Omaha Productions, offers an in-depth look at the challenges and demands of playing one of the toughest positions in sports.
The docuseries follows the 2022 season of three prominent quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, and Marcus Mariota of the Atlanta Falcons. Manning, an executive producer on the project, provides insights into what viewers can expect.
Through interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, "Quarterback" explores the lives of these athletes both on and off the field. Manning hints at the activities viewers will witness, posing questions like: "Are they hanging out? Are they playing golf? Are they in the weight room and watching film and grinding for that next game?" Manning reveals that the answer lies in their dedication to the game, leaving no room for leisurely activities like golf during the season.
The series, exclusively available on Netflix, premieres on Wednesday.
Patrick Mahomes, at just 27 years old, has already established himself as a standard-bearer for the quarterback position. With two Super Bowl championships and two NFL MVP titles under his belt, Mahomes showcases his exceptional skills throughout the 2022 season. He completed an impressive 67.1% of his passes for 5,250 yards, throwing 41 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions.
Kirk Cousins led the Vikings to victory in the NFC North in 2022, demonstrating his ability to lead his team to come-from-behind victories. In his 17 starts, Cousins orchestrated eight four-quarter comebacks. He threw for 4,547 yards, tallying 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, which tied for the second-highest in the league. However, Cousins also experienced the physical toll of the game, enduring 46 sacks.
Marcus Mariota's career has been marked by ups and downs since winning the Heisman Trophy in 2014 and being drafted second overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 NFL Draft. In his first season with the Falcons, Mariota had a mixed performance, finishing with a 5-8 record, passing for 2,219 yards, and throwing 15 touchdowns.
Netflix promises to provide unprecedented access to these quarterbacks, shedding light on how they navigate the physical demands of football and prioritize their well-being. Cousins, who will turn 35 in the upcoming season, employs a chiropractor and masseuse to address soft tissue issues. Mahomes, on the other hand, relies on his personal trainer to maintain his peak physical condition. Meanwhile, Mariota opts for a private chef to ensure his diet supports his performance.
"Quarterback" offers viewers an immersive experience, capturing the essence of what it takes to excel in one of the most challenging positions in sports. Through captivating storytelling and intimate glimpses into the lives of these quarterbacks, Netflix invites audiences to gain a deeper understanding of the dedication, sacrifice, and physicality required to succeed in the NFL.
