Celine Dion's Sister Speaks Out: Medicine Scarcity Plagues Us

Celine Dion's sister reveals that the singer is struggling with a rare, incurable neurological disorder called Stiff Person Syndrome.

Celine Dion's sister has recently provided an update on the singer's health, revealing that they have yet to find a medication that effectively treats her condition. Over the years, concerns about Dion's health and significant weight loss have been a topic of discussion. She even had to postpone her 2023 European tour due to being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare and incurable neurological disorder.

In an interview with Le Journal de Montreal, Claudette, Celine Dion's sister, expressed that the 55-year-old singer is not doing well. Currently, she is being cared for by her sister Linda at her Las Vegas mansion and consulting with medical professionals to explore treatment options for SPS. Despite the challenges, Claudette emphasized the importance of maintaining hope even when no effective medication has been found.

Celine Dion, the youngest of 14 siblings, has three children with her late husband, René Angelil. While SPS is an incurable disease, its progression can be slowed down through a combination of rehabilitation and medication. Celine and her family are dedicated to doing everything possible to manage the condition, including seeking guidance from leading researchers in the field.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders, SPS is a rare and progressive neurological disease primarily affecting women. It is characterized by the stiffening of the torso, arms, and legs. The condition is also associated with autoimmune disorders such as type-I diabetes, thyroiditis, vitiligo, and anemia.

While there is currently no cure for SPS, certain medications like muscle relaxants can help alleviate the symptoms. Dion's journey with this challenging condition serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing research and support for individuals facing rare diseases.
