Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins stabbed in neck in jail attack
Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins was stabbed in the neck in a planned jail ambush by other prisoners. Watkins, a convicted sex offender, was left in a critical condition after the attack.
In a shocking incident, Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins was reportedly stabbed in the neck during a planned jail ambush by fellow prisoners. The 46-year-old convicted sex offender was left in critical condition after being taken hostage, stabbed, and beaten at HMP Wakefield in Yorkshire. Watkins shares a wing with murderers, killers, and rapists, making him a target in prison. The attack was allegedly planned for a day when there would be fewer staff on duty. Watkins was eventually freed by a specially-trained riot team, who stormed the wing and used stun grenades to rescue him from the other inmates. The entire prison wing was locked down during the incident, which occurred on a Saturday morning. Watkins was taken to a hospital in Leeds and is expected to survive. The police are currently investigating the incident.
The Mirror reports that Watkins was not only stabbed but also "battered" before the attack. Paramedics were seen providing life-saving treatment outside the prison. Watkins has been described as "unpopular" among inmates due to his crimes and has been walking around with a target on his back. The attack on him was apparently well-planned and executed by three "heavy-duty" prisoners. Watkins was taken to the hospital in a bad condition but is expected to recover.
In 2013, the music world was shocked when Watkins pleaded guilty to the attempted rape of a baby and ten other sex offenses. He specifically targeted his fans, with two even offering their babies to him for abuse. Watkins discussed his desire to "cross the line" and abuse babies with their mothers in text and internet messages. He also expressed his desire to blow crystal meth smoke into the face of a child victim. A sickening 17-minute video presented in court showed Watkins performing a sex act on a child in a London hotel room. He was described as a "determined and committed pedophile" and was sentenced to 29 years in prison for his crimes. Watkins pleaded guilty to 13 child sex offenses, including rape and sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, as well as conspiring to rape a child, sexual assault involving children, and possession of indecent images of children. He also possessed an extreme pornographic image involving a sex act on an animal.
The incident at HMP Wakefield serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by high-profile prisoners, especially those convicted of heinous crimes like Watkins. It also highlights the need for increased security measures in prisons to ensure the safety of all inmates, regardless of their crimes. The police investigation into the attack will hopefully shed light on the circumstances surrounding it and prevent similar incidents in the future.
