"The Blind Side": Michael Oher, Tuohys Estranged for 10 Years
'Teen Mom 2' Star Jenelle Evans Tears Up After Regaining Custody...
In a surprising turn of events, it has been revealed that Michael Oher, the real-life inspiration behind the hit movie The Blind Side, has been estranged from the Tuohy family for the past decade. Attorneys representing the Tuohys held a press conference in Memphis, Tennessee to address Oher's recent lawsuit, in which he claims that Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy lied about adopting him and coerced him into making them his conservators when he turned 18.
When asked about Oher's relationship with the Tuohys, attorney Steven Farese confirmed that he has been estranged from them for the past 10 years. Farese also mentioned that Oher has become increasingly vocal and threatening in recent years.
Oher's lawsuit also alleges that the Tuohys used their position as his conservators to negotiate a lucrative deal with 20th Century Fox, earning millions of dollars in royalties from The Blind Side. The film, which starred Sandra Bullock and earned over $330 million, allegedly paid the Tuohys and their biological children, Collins Tuohy and Sean Tuohy Jr., $225,000 each plus 2.5 percent of the film's proceeds.
However, attorney Randall Fishman disputes these claims, stating that the amount paid to the Tuohys and Oher is significantly less than what is alleged. According to Fishman, each member of the family received approximately $100,000, with the total amount divided equally among them.
Fishman also refutes Oher's assertion that he cannot enter into contracts without the approval of his conservators. He claims that Oher has negotiated his own contracts in the NFL and has hired and fired his own agents, without any involvement from the Tuohys.
The conservatorship, according to Fishman, was established to protect Oher's eligibility to play college football and avoid any issues with the NCAA. Once that purpose was fulfilled, Fishman argues that the Tuohys had no further interest in Oher's financial affairs.
If Oher wishes to have an accounting of the financial dealings related to The Blind Side, Fishman states that the family is willing to oblige. They are also open to terminating the conservatorship if Oher desires.
In response to the lawsuit, the Tuohys' other attorney, Marty Singer, released a statement affirming that they would not oppose Oher's request to terminate the conservatorship at any time.
Oher himself has spoken out about the situation, expressing his disappointment in a statement to ET. He asks for privacy and states that he will let the lawsuit speak for itself.
The Blind Side's Quinton Aaron, who played Oher in the film, has come to the defense of Sandra Bullock amidst the Tuohy lawsuit. The controversy surrounding Oher and the Tuohys continues to unfold, leaving many curious about the truth behind their relationship.
