Cleveland Browns rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson impresses vs. Eagles

Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson leads the team to an 8-3 halftime advantage in his NFL starting debut.

In his second significant stretch of playing time, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the rookie quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, may not have been as impressive as his first outing. However, he managed to end the game with his team in the lead, just like before.

Thompson-Robinson, a fifth-round pick out of UCLA, made his NFL starting debut in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. He played the first two quarters and led the Browns to an 8-3 halftime advantage.

It's worth noting that Thompson-Robinson had previously played in the second half of the Browns' Hall of Fame Game against the New York Jets. In that game, he orchestrated two touchdown drives, including a 22-yard touchdown pass to Austin Watkins Jr., to help Cleveland come back from a halftime deficit of 16-7.

Although Thompson-Robinson's numbers weren't as remarkable in his second extended playing time, he still managed to complete 13 of 25 passes for 164 yards, with one sack.

However, the highlight of the night was undoubtedly Thompson-Robinson's opening drive. He made two crucial third-down completions to Cedric Tillman and Anthony Schwartz, as well as a 36-yard pass to Tillman that brought the Browns to the Philadelphia 16-yard line.

Despite Thompson-Robinson's impressive efforts, the drive ultimately ended without points when running back John Kelly Jr. fumbled at the 2-yard line, after the quarterback had converted on a fourth down inside the Eagles' territory.

Nevertheless, Thompson-Robinson didn't let this setback deter him. He went on to lead the Browns to two field-goal drives in the second quarter. One of these drives was particularly remarkable, as he connected with Watkins on a 27-yard pass, despite the receiver being double covered along the sideline. The completion brought the Browns to the Eagles' 11-yard line.

Overall, while Thompson-Robinson's second outing may not have been as awe-inspiring as his first, he still displayed promising skills and contributed to his team's success. With more playing time and experience, it will be interesting to see how he continues to develop as a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.
