Jake Paul, Mike Tyson Send Message to Influencer Boxers Over Lack of Sportsmanship
Jake Paul calls on fellow influencers to take boxing more seriously, emphasizing the need for intense training and dedication.
Jake Paul has faced a significant amount of criticism since venturing into the world of boxing. However, one aspect that cannot be faulted is his unwavering work ethic. In 2018, the social media star embarked on his boxing journey, participating in one amateur fight and eight professional bouts. His sole loss came at the hands of Tommy Fury, brother of renowned heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury.
It is worth noting that Jake Paul is not the only "influencer" who has dabbled in boxing. His brother has also taken part in the sport. Another prominent figure in this realm is KSI, who has established an entire promotional company called Misfits Boxing, solely dedicated to "influencer" boxing fights.
Nevertheless, this aspect of the sport has faced scrutiny for potentially turning boxing into a mockery. Instances such as tag team fights, press conference antics, and fighters engaging in flashy behavior have raised concerns. Jake Paul himself believes that some of his fellow influencers do not take boxing as seriously as they should.
During an interview on Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson, Paul expressed his thoughts on the matter. He stated, "A lot of them don't take it super seriously, that's the problem." Tyson responded by saying, "Well now that you do, some will. You need to tell everyone." Paul continued to emphasize the importance of influencers approaching boxing with a heightened level of seriousness. He suggested committing to three-month training camps, engaging in twice-daily training sessions, and assembling a dedicated and professional team. He emphasized the need to avoid half-hearted efforts, stating, "If you're gonna do it, do it right."
Tyson chimed in, delivering a blunt message, "Or you're gonna get f***ed up. This the hurt business motherf***ers."
In his most recent fight, Jake Paul faced UFC veteran Nate Diaz and emerged victorious with an unanimous decision. Encouraged by his success, Paul now seeks a rematch with Diaz, but this time in the realm of mixed martial arts (MMA). He has signed with the PFL (Professional Fighters League), a rival organization to the UFC, in pursuit of this goal.
