Roma considers signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United

Roma is interested in signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, according to a new report. The Italian club has contacted United, but the extent of their interest is unclear.

Roma, a Serie A club, is reportedly considering the possibility of signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United. This comes after United announced on Monday that the 21-year-old will be leaving the club by mutual consent, following an internal investigation into his conduct. As a result, Greenwood will not be allowed to return to training at Carrington while the club decides whether to sell him permanently or loan him out. His current contract with United expires in 2025.

Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He was subsequently charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. However, the charges were dropped in February due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence that emerged, leading to the conclusion that there was no longer a realistic chance of conviction.

After a six-month internal investigation, United has now made their decision, and both the club and Greenwood are actively seeking a transfer or loan deal away from Old Trafford. According to a new report, Roma is one of the Italian clubs interested in signing him, as he has been linked with a move to Serie A multiple times during United's investigation.

Sources suggest that Roma has reached out to United regarding Greenwood, although the extent of their interest in the young forward remains unclear. It is worth noting that Roma is managed by Jose Mourinho, who was in charge of United when Greenwood signed his first professional contract in October 2018. However, Greenwood made his senior debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's management.

In the meantime, it has been reported that United rejected offers for Greenwood from Turkish clubs while their internal investigation was ongoing.
