Andrew Bowser's beloved TikTok character Onyx the Fortuitous has finally made his way to the silver screen, following a successful indie campaign. The feature film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, is set to hit theaters just in time for Halloween.
With a massive following of over a million fans on the social media platform, Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls already has a dedicated fan base. However, judging from the trailer, even newcomers will find themselves captivated by Onyx's unique and energetic presence. The movie draws inspiration from classics like Ernest Scared Stupid and Pee-wee's Big Adventure, as well as evoking memories of that emo horror kid we all knew from school. Bowser's online skits featuring the character have garnered over 300 million views, and now his endearing "aw, shucks" horror encounters and misadventures have been transformed into a full-fledged film. It's thrilling to witness Onyx leave his hometown and embark on the horror movie of his dreams... or perhaps nightmares.

According to a press release from Cineverse, the film is described as follows: "Marcus J. Trillbury (played by Bowser), also known as Onyx the Fortuitous, is a misunderstood individual desperately searching for purpose in his soul-devouring side job. Just as he contemplates giving up, he receives a coveted invitation to the mansion of his idol, Bartok the Great (played by Jeffrey Combs, known for his role in Re-Animator), for a ritual to summon the spirit of an ancient demon. Overjoyed, Onyx joins Bartok, along with the enigmatic delegate Farrah (played by Olivia Taylor Dudley, from The Magicians), and a group of fellow enthusiasts as they prepare for the ceremony. However, it soon becomes clear that things are not what they seem. As Onyx and his newfound friends fight to protect their souls, he must make difficult choices and decide what he is willing to sacrifice in order to fulfill his destiny."
In addition to Bowser, Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls features horror icon Barbara Crampton (known for her roles in You're Next and Re-Animator) as Onyx's mother. The rest of the cast includes Ralph Ineson (from The Green Knight), Rivkah Reyes (known for School of Rock), TC Carson (from Final Destination 2), Arden Myrin (from Shameless), and Melanie Chandra (from Code Black).
Bowser expressed his excitement, stating, "Onyx started off as a quirky digital character that I hoped would resonate with even a small audience. Witnessing its growth in popularity over the past few years has been absolutely incredible, and now we're preparing for a major theatrical event. It just goes to show that if you're willing to put your art or yourself out there, amazing things can happen." Bowser served as a producer on the film, alongside Clark Baker, Michael Mobley, and Olivia Taylor Dudley. The film made its debut as part of the Midnight Section at the Sundance Film Festival.
