Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Questionable for Opener against Lions

Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce is questionable for the season opener after hyperextending his knee in practice.

Travis Kelce, the star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, missed the final practice before the season opener due to a hyperextended knee. This injury has put his availability for the game against the Detroit Lions in question. However, he is the only player on the Super Bowl champion team with an injury designation.

While Kelce's status remains uncertain, wide receiver Kadarius Toney and cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, who have also been dealing with knee injuries, are expected to be on the field for the opener. Chiefs coach Andy Reid did not provide specific details about Kelce's injury, but sources have indicated that there is no ligament damage.

Kelce's brother, Jason Kelce, who plays center for the Philadelphia Eagles, mentioned that there is swelling and a possible bruise on the bone that may take some time to heal. However, he expressed optimism that the injury is not serious and that Kelce's knee will recover with proper treatment.

Throughout his career, Kelce has been remarkably durable, missing only one game in his rookie season due to a knee cartilage problem. He has also been proactive in maintaining his health and credits the Chiefs' training staff for their exceptional care. Last season, Kelce had an outstanding performance with 110 receptions, 1,338 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns, earning him first-team All-Pro honors and his eighth consecutive Pro Bowl selection.

Kelce understands the importance of luck in staying healthy and being able to play every week. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his injury, he remains hopeful that he will be able to contribute to his team's season opener.
