'Giants Darren Waller playing vs. Cowboys on Monday night despite hamstring injury: report'
Darren Waller, the Giants' top pass catcher, is listed as questionable for Monday night's game due to a hamstring injury.
In the 2023 offseason, the New York Giants made a significant addition with the acquisition of Darren Waller. His preseason performances alongside quarterback Daniel Jones solidified his position as the team's top pass catcher.
However, there is now concern as Waller has been listed on the Giants' official injury report as a limited participant in practice due to a hamstring injury. Despite being questionable, it is expected that Waller will still play in Monday night's game against the Giants, as reported by NFL Media.
Waller had been fully participating in the Giants' offseason and preseason activities, earning high praise for his performance during training camp. He quickly became one of Jones' favorite targets. However, injuries have been a recurring issue for the tight end. In the 2022 season, Waller was limited to just nine games due to lingering hamstring problems. Additionally, he missed six games in the previous year due to ankle and knee injuries.
It remains unclear whether Waller's current hamstring injury is related to his previous struggles. When healthy, Waller has proven himself as one of the top players in his position. He achieved impressive numbers, recording over 90 catches and 1,100 yards in consecutive seasons for the Raiders from 2019 to 2020.
In the event that Waller is unable to play in the season opener, the Giants have Daniel Bellinger and Lawrence Cager as reserves behind him on the tight end depth chart. Without Waller, Jones may rely more heavily on other offensive weapons, such as running back Saquon Barkley and new additions at wide receiver like rookie Jalin Hyatt and veteran Parris Campbell, formerly of the Colts.
