During his time at Freedom High School in Oakley, Walker's athletic prowess shone through in both football and track and field. After completing his sophomore year, he returned to Richmond to continue his education with his mother. At John F. Kennedy High School, Walker continued to excel academically and emerge as a highly regarded football player.
