Danelo Cavalcante update: Escaped murderer fears lead to closure of schools
A Pennsylvania school district closed due to safety concerns amid the ongoing search for escaped inmate Danelo Cavalcante.
In light of the ongoing search for escaped inmate Danelo Cavalcante from Chester County Prison, the Owen J. Roberts School District in Chester County, Pennsylvania, made the decision to close all schools and offices on Tuesday. This action was taken due to increased police activity in the community related to the pursuit of Cavalcante. The school district prioritizes the safety and security of its students and staff, acknowledging the stress and upset caused by this situation. They express gratitude for the patience, support, and understanding of the community during this challenging time.
Cavalcante, who escaped from Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township on August 31, remains at large. In a video shared by the Chester County District Attorney's Office, Cavalcante can be seen crab-walking up a wall to make his escape. He had entered the United States from Brazil without documentation in 2017 and was arrested in Pennsylvania in 2021 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao. It is believed that Cavalcante killed Brandao after she discovered his involvement in a murder case in Brazil.
Cavalcante had been convicted of first and third-degree murder for the killing of Brandao and was sentenced to life in prison. However, he managed to escape custody on August 31, leading to an extensive search by law enforcement. There have been two confirmed sightings of Cavalcante in Pennsylvania since his escape.
The Pennsylvania State Police released updated photos of Cavalcante, showing a change in his appearance. He is now clean-shaven and was last seen wearing a yellow or green hooded sweatshirt, a black baseball cap, green prison pants, and white shoes. Authorities believe he is driving a 2020 White Ford Transit van with Pennsylvania registration number ZST-8818.
In the most recent update, the Pennsylvania State Police reported that they are pursuing Cavalcante in the area of Ridge Rd/Coventryville Rd/Daisy Point Rd in South Coventry Township, Chester County. They have advised residents in the area to lock all doors and windows, secure their vehicles, and remain indoors. The public is warned not to approach Cavalcante and to call 911 if he is seen.
Newsweek reached out to the Pennsylvania State Police for comment but was directed to the statement released by the Owen J. Roberts School District.
