Chris Cabott, the CEO of Equity Sports, also revealed that the Chiefs and Mahomes have plans to revisit the contract after the 2026 season. This indicates that there may be further adjustments or negotiations in the future.

It's important to note that Mahomes initially signed a 10-year extension worth $450 million in 2020, which at the time was the largest contract in NFL history in terms of total value. However, since then, the NFL quarterback market has experienced a reset, with other players surpassing Mahomes' average annual salary of $45 million.

According to Spotrac, quarterbacks such as Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, and Deshaun Watson now earn higher average annual salaries than Mahomes.

Under the new terms of his contract, Mahomes will earn an average of $52.65 million per year for the next four seasons.

Turning 28 on Sunday, Mahomes has already achieved remarkable success in his career. He has won two Super Bowls and two league MVP awards. In the regular season, he boasts an impressive record of 65 wins and 17 losses as a starter, along with an 11-3 record in the postseason. Since being drafted by the Chiefs in the first round (10th overall) in 2017, Mahomes has thrown for 24,772 yards, 196 touchdowns, and 51 interceptions in 82 starts.
