Emma Roberts Accused Of Making Transphobic Remarks On American Horror Story Set
Transgender activist Angelica Ross accuses Emma Roberts of intentionally misgendering her on the set of "American Horror Story: 1984."
Transgender activist and actor Angelica Ross has recently come forward with accusations against her former co-star Emma Roberts, claiming that Roberts intentionally misgendered her during their time working together on "American Horror Story: 1984." Ross made these allegations during an Instagram Live session, which was later shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).
According to Ross, the incident occurred during a conversation between herself, Roberts, and director John J. Gray. Roberts jokingly complained to Gray that Ross was being mean to her, to which Gray attempted to defuse the situation by saying, "OK, ladies, that's enough. Let's get back to work." In response, Roberts allegedly replied, "Don't you mean lady?"
Ross expressed her outrage at Roberts' transphobic implication that she was the only "lady" in the conversation. She explained that speaking up about the incident would likely result in her being labeled as the problem, citing a previous experience where someone faced repercussions for calling out Roberts' behavior.
During her Instagram Live, Ross also claimed that Roberts frequently engaged in manipulative behavior on the set of "AHS: 1984," playing "mind games" with her colleagues. Ross suggested that Roberts was able to get away with this behavior because she made it clear that she held a position of power as the lead actor on the show.
Ross further alleged that Roberts made another transphobic joke about her during filming. Ross had been imitating a co-star's accent in front of Roberts, prompting Roberts to imitate Ross by copying her voice and lowering it several octaves. This incident left Ross feeling self-conscious about her voice on set.
HuffPost has reached out to Roberts for comment, but has not yet received a response. However, it appears that Roberts may have reached out to Ross privately to apologize for her actions. Ross posted a follow-up on X, suggesting that some form of communication had taken place between the two individuals.
