Cher engineered abduction of own son from NY hotel, court documents reveal
Cher's daughter-in-law alleges that the Hollywood icon kidnapped her son on their anniversary night, according to court documents.
In a surprising turn of events, court documents reveal that Cher allegedly kidnapped her own son last year during his anniversary celebration with his wife at a New York hotel. The allegations were made by Cher's daughter-in-law, Marieangela King, as part of her ongoing divorce proceedings with Cher's younger son, Elijah Blue Allman. The couple had attempted to salvage their marriage by spending nearly two weeks together in New York, but on the night of their anniversary, four men reportedly entered their hotel room and forcibly removed Allman.
According to King's court filing, she expressed deep concern for her husband's well-being and whereabouts, stating that she was unaware of his condition after the incident. She claimed that one of the men who took him had revealed that they were hired by Cher herself. However, representatives for Cher have not responded to requests for comment, and Allman's attorney has remained silent on the matter.
King's attorney, Regina Ratner, confirmed that her client is still worried about Allman's health and safety. Following the alleged abduction, Allman was taken to a treatment facility where King was not allowed to contact him. The court documents indicate that his treatment was expected to conclude by March.
The court filing primarily aimed to seek spousal support, housing, healthcare, and access to King's own assets and tax documents in preparation for a possible divorce trial. King claimed that Allman owed her $25,000 in outstanding spousal support payments, which have made it challenging for her to secure housing, pay legal bills, and purchase her prescription medications. Furthermore, King asserted that Cher had requested her to move out of her home with Allman in August 2022, preventing her from retrieving her belongings and accessing items purchased during their marriage.
Ratner emphasized that these financial concerns and the issue of accessing King's assets have yet to be resolved. A hearing to set a trial date for the divorce case is scheduled for October, but Ratner revealed that the case has been on hold for several months.
Cher and her second husband, Gregg Allman, welcomed Elijah into the world in 1975. As Cher pursued her successful solo career in the 1970s, she often appeared in public with Elijah by her side. Elijah eventually followed in his mother's footsteps and became a recording artist, leading the Los Angeles industrial metal band Deadsy. Similarly, King, who performs under the name Queenie, is also a recording artist and was a member of the pop band King in London, formed with her four siblings in 1997.
