Seahawks safety Jamal Adams ruled out of game vs Giants due to concussion
Jamal Adams' highly anticipated return to football after a year-long absence was cut short due to a concussion evaluation.
Jamal Adams made his long-awaited return to the football field after being away for 385 days, but unfortunately, his comeback was cut short. Adams, who started the game against the Giants on Monday night, was part of a three-safety set during the first defensive possession. This was his first game since September 12, 2022, when he suffered a torn quad muscle while playing against the Denver Broncos.
However, Adams' return was overshadowed by an injury. After making a tackle on New York quarterback Daniel Jones on a second-and-11 play at the Seattle 37, Adams was evaluated for a concussion. It appeared that Jones' knee hit Adams in the head, causing him to get up slowly and be taken to the medical tent for examination. He was then taken to the locker room, and shortly after, the team ruled him out for the rest of the game.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Adams had been looking forward to this moment. Returning to MetLife Stadium, where he had spent the first three seasons of his career playing for the New York Jets, added an extra layer of significance to his comeback. He viewed it as an opportunity of a lifetime and didn't take it for granted. The injury he had endured had taught him valuable lessons about the game of football and life itself, shaping his perspective and approach to his profession.
Adams was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks from the Jets in July 2020 in a trade that involved two first-round picks. However, injuries have plagued his career since his first season with Seattle in 2020, where he set an NFL record for a defensive back with 9.5 sacks. In 2021, he was limited to 12 games due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. Then, in the opening game of the 2022 season, he suffered the torn quad injury that kept him out until his recent return.
Despite the setbacks, Adams expressed his excitement about being able to play again. He admitted that he had briefly considered retiring after his quad injury but ultimately decided to continue pursuing his passion for the game. The time away from football had made him appreciate every play, moment, and second on the field. He vowed not to take anything for granted moving forward.
It is unfortunate that Jamal Adams' return to the NFL was cut short after just nine plays. However, his resilience and determination to overcome his injuries and continue playing the game he loves are commendable. As he recovers from his concussion, we can only hope to see him back on the field soon, fully healthy and ready to make an impact for the Seattle Seahawks.
