Bears DJ Moore dominates Commanders, making fantasy owners rejoice
The Chicago Bears dominate the Washington Commanders in the first half, with wide receiver D.J. Moore leading the way.
The Chicago Bears, who have not won a game in their last 18 attempts, came out with a strong start against the Washington Commanders on Thursday night. The standout performer was wide receiver D.J. Moore, who played a crucial role in the Bears' 27-3 halftime lead.
Bears quarterback Justin Fields, despite the team's loss last week against the Denver Broncos, had a standout performance. He carried that momentum into the game against the Commanders, connecting with Moore on the first drive for a 58-yard bomb down the left sideline, bringing the Bears to Washington's 16-yard line.
Even when it seemed like the Bears' drive would come to a halt after Fields was sacked, forcing a 3rd-and-14 situation, Fields delivered a perfect pass to Moore in the back left of the end zone for a touchdown.
But Moore wasn't finished causing damage in the first quarter. After the Bears forced a three-and-out on the Commanders, they quickly regained possession. Fields and Moore continued their impressive partnership, with Moore executing a simple curl route and Fields delivering a precise throw. Despite the Commanders' cornerback appearing to have a chance to tackle Moore immediately after the catch, Moore evaded the tackle and sprinted down the right sideline for a 39-yard gain, surpassing the expected seven yards.
The Bears' offense gained momentum from Moore's explosive plays, steadily advancing into Washington territory. On a crucial 3rd-and-6 play on Washington's 11-yard line, Fields once again relied on Moore, throwing a fade pass to the back of the end zone. Moore leaped up and secured the ball, scoring his second touchdown of the half in just over 15 minutes of play.
By halftime, Moore had accumulated five receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns, much to the delight of fantasy football owners who had him in their starting lineups.
However, it wasn't solely Moore who contributed to the Bears' dominance in terms of yardage. They outgained the Commanders 307-84 in the first half, with a strong rushing game. Running back Khalil Herbert led the way with 76 yards on nine carries, while Fields himself contributed 27 rushing yards on six attempts. Fields also connected with Cole Kmet for a touchdown, with Kmet recording five catches for 42 yards.
The Bears, desperate for a victory, find themselves in a prime position to break their losing streak that has carried over from the 2022 season.
In the second half, Moore and the rest of the offense will continue to give their all to secure the much-needed win.
