Rick and Morty Season 7 Premiere: New Voice Actors Replacing Justin Roiland Revealed
"Rick and Morty season 7 debuts with new voice actors replacing Justin Roiland. Fans speculate on their past work."
Harry Belden has taken on the role of Morty Smith, the bumbling grandson, in the seventh season of the hit show Rick and Morty. This comes after co-creator Justin Roiland was replaced due to misconduct allegations earlier this year. The new voices, described as 'soundalikes' by Adult Swim, were first heard in the trailer for the new season. The studio has been tight-lipped about the new voice actors, wanting the show to speak for itself and preserve the viewing experience for fans.
There may be some concerns from diehard fans who might go out of their way to look up the voice actors' past work and judge them based on it. However, the trailer for season 7 made it clear that the new voices would stay true to Roiland's interpretation of the characters. The opening credits for the new season also omitted the usual 'Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon' above the logo, indicating that the studio is committed to using the new voice actors for future seasons.
Season 7 of Rick and Morty promises to be filled with vengeance as Rick Prime, an alternate version of the titular scientist, hunts down the version that brutally killed his family. Morty joins him on this mission, accompanied by a team of allies including Birdperson, Gearhead, President Curtis, and Mr. Poopybutthole. They will navigate through multiversal tears, encountering Robot Ghosts, bloody spaghetti, and more. The recurring character Mr. Poopybutthole has also been recast, with John Allen taking over the role.
The decision to recast Mr. Poopybutthole was made due to time constraints and the expanded role the character has in the upcoming season. Showrunner Scott Marder explained that it was too much to ask of Cardoni and Belden to take on the additional workload. After a six-month search and thousands of applicants, John Allen was chosen to relieve the pressure on the other voice actors. Interestingly, many of the tryouts sounded like wrestler Macho Man Randy Savage, but struggled to perform the voices conversationally.
Fans can now enjoy season 7 of Rick and Morty on Adult Swim, with new episodes dropping every Monday on Netflix in India. The show continues to captivate audiences with its unique blend of humor and science fiction storytelling.
