Danny Masterson and Bijou Phillips Reach Custody Decision Ahead of Prison Sentence
Danny Masterson agrees to give full custody of his daughter to his estranged wife amid his prison sentence for rape.
In a recent development, actor Danny Masterson and his estranged wife, Bijou Phillips, have come to a custody decision regarding their daughter amidst Masterson's prison sentence. Masterson, known for his role in That '70s Show, has agreed that Phillips should have full custody of their daughter, Fianna. This decision comes as Masterson faces a prison sentence of 30 years to life following a rape conviction.
Phillips had previously filed for divorce from Masterson after his sentencing was announced. In a statement from Phillips' attorney, Peter A. Lauzon, it was explained that she made the difficult decision during a challenging time for their family. Lauzon emphasized that Phillips' priority remains with her daughter and acknowledged Masterson as a wonderful father.
The couple's relationship began in 2004, and they got engaged in 2009 before marrying in 2011. Their daughter was born in February 2014. Masterson gained recognition for his role as Steven Hyde on That '70s Show, which aired for eight seasons. He later collaborated with his co-star Ashton Kutcher on the Netflix series The Ranch. However, in 2017, Masterson faced multiple sexual assault allegations, leading to his dismissal from Netflix.
The first sexual assault trial against Masterson concluded in November 2022, with the jury unable to reach a verdict on all charges. However, he was found guilty of two counts of rape against women associated with the Church of Scientology, of which Masterson is a member. The jury remained deadlocked on a third charge. Phillips was present in court for both Masterson's conviction and sentencing.
Reports indicate that both Phillips and Masterson's mother, Carol Masterson, appeared visibly upset during the sentencing hearing. Phillips wore sunglasses throughout the proceedings but remained composed. Following the sentencing, Phillips and Carol were swiftly escorted to a vehicle. Masterson's brother, Christopher, known for his role in Malcolm in the Middle, also attended the hearing.
This recent custody decision reflects the challenging circumstances faced by Masterson and Phillips. Despite the difficulties, they have reached an agreement that prioritizes the well-being of their daughter. As Masterson begins his prison sentence, the future remains uncertain for all parties involved.
