NBA Supercomputer predicts 2023-24 season results and finals winners
NBA supercomputer predicts Denver Nuggets in 2024 Finals, but Bucks and Celtics have highest odds of winning.
According to a supercomputer called BETSiE, the Denver Nuggets have been predicted to reach the 2024 NBA Finals. However, the Milwaukee Bucks, with their new dynamic duo of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, are believed to have the highest odds of winning the championship, along with the Boston Celtics.
BETSiE utilized simulations to generate average scores and win-loss probabilities for each NBA game in the 2023-24 season. After running the simulations 100,000 times, the supercomputer determined that the Celtics and Bucks have a 15.6% chance of winning it all this season. In comparison, the Nuggets' odds of defending their title stood at 11.3%.
Out of all the NBA teams, only these three have championship odds in the double digits. When it comes to reaching the 2024 Finals, BETSiE identifies the Celtics and Bucks as the most likely teams from the Eastern Conference. Boston has a 30.5% chance of securing the conference title, while Milwaukee follows closely behind at 29.8%. In contrast, the Philadelphia 76ers have an 11.8% chance, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have an 8.2% chance.
The race for the Western Conference championship is expected to be more closely contested, according to BETSiE's predictions. The supercomputer gives the Nuggets a 22% chance of emerging as the conference champions, with the Phoenix Suns at 15.5%, the Golden State Warriors at 12.2%, and the Los Angeles Lakers at 11.6%.
BETSiE also made some interesting projections for individual teams. The supercomputer anticipates that the Detroit Pistons will make a significant improvement from their 17-65 record last season, with an increase of over 10 wins. On the other hand, the Washington Wizards are expected to experience the biggest decline, finishing the new campaign with only 26.2 wins, which is 8.8 less than the previous season. This would result in the Wizards having the worst regular-season record in the NBA.
Surprisingly, despite the arrival of No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama, BETSiE predicts that the San Antonio Spurs will only win 5.6 more games than last year. The supercomputer even suggests that the Spurs will finish the 2023-24 season at the bottom of the Western Conference standings, likely with a 28-54 record.
