Jalon Daniels warms up at quarterback for Kansas football, but Jason Bean gets the start
Junior quarterback Jalon Daniels is expected to miss his fourth-straight Kansas football game due to an ongoing back issue.
In a disappointing turn of events, it appears that junior quarterback Jalon Daniels will once again be absent from the Kansas football game. Despite participating in warmups and being in uniform prior to kickoff, it was redshirt senior quarterback Jason Bean who took the field during the team's first drive against the formidable No. 6 Oklahoma. This marks the fourth consecutive game that Daniels has been unable to start, all of which have been Big 12 Conference contests. In fact, it is the fifth game overall this season that Daniels has been unable to start, including the season opener against Missouri State.
When asked about Daniels' status, Coach Leipold remained optimistic but cautious, stating, "I remain very encouraged, and again I'll kind of leave it there. I think it's still in the doubtful area, but doubtful, questionable and those things." It is clear that Daniels' availability for future games remains uncertain.
With Bean filling in for Daniels, the Jayhawks have managed a 2-2 record this season. Wins have been secured against Missouri State and UCF, while losses have been suffered against Texas and Oklahoma State. Bean is no stranger to facing Oklahoma, as he has started in both previous games against the Sooners during Coach Leipold's tenure. Unfortunately, Kansas was unable to secure victories in either of those matchups in 2021 and 2022.
As the game unfolds, it will be interesting to see how the Jayhawks fare against the highly ranked Oklahoma team. Will Bean be able to lead the offense to a victory, or will the absence of Daniels prove to be a significant setback? Only time will tell.
In the meantime, it is worth noting that defensive lineman Austin Booker has been thriving with the Kansas football team. Despite his success, Booker remains hungry for more and is determined to continue making an impact on the field.
It is evident that the Kansas football program is facing challenges with Daniels' absence, but the team remains resilient. With Bean at the helm, they have proven that they can compete and secure wins. As the game progresses, all eyes will be on Lawrence to see if the Jayhawks can pull off an upset against the highly favored Oklahoma team.
