Bowen and Kudus React to West Ham's EFL Cup Victory against Arsenal
West Ham United duo Bowen and Kudus express pride after scoring in victory over Arsenal in EFL Cup.
West Ham United's dynamic duo, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, are beaming with pride after their remarkable contributions in the Hammers' triumphant 3-1 victory over local rivals Arsenal in the EFL Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.
The match started with a stroke of luck for West Ham as Ben White inadvertently headed a Bowen corner into his own net, granting the Hammers an early lead within the first 16 minutes. Kudus then showcased his brilliance by unleashing a stunning shot across the goal, securing a second goal for David Moyes's side just five minutes into the second half.
The icing on the cake came from Bowen, who fired his seventh goal of the season and West Ham's third of the night from the edge of the area, leaving Arsenal's goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale helpless. Despite a consolation goal from Martin Odegaard in stoppage time, West Ham emerged victorious.
This impressive victory marks West Ham's second consecutive year in the EFL Cup quarter-finals. Their next challenge awaits them at Anfield, where they will face Liverpool in mid-December.
Following a string of disappointing defeats in recent competitions, Bowen expressed his satisfaction with West Ham's response against Arsenal. He emphasized the importance of defeating top teams in order to secure silverware.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Bowen said, "This win was crucial. We were well aware of what was at stake. Having won a trophy in the summer and being involved in multiple cup competitions both domestically and in Europe, we have a great opportunity to add another trophy to our collection."
He continued, "We've always talked about the need to defeat the best teams if we want to win a cup. Tonight, we proved that we have what it takes."
Bowen added, "To be the best and win a cup competition, you have to beat the best. With our participation in numerous cup competitions, we have a real chance."
Reflecting on his own performance, Bowen acknowledged the challenging week the team had experienced but commended their determination to secure the victory. He concluded, "We can't dwell on the past. We had to face the opposition in front of us, and you could see the hunger and drive in everyone to win this game."
Kudus, on the other hand, was delighted to seize his opportunity in the first team and contribute his third goal for West Ham since joining the club in the summer.
"It feels amazing to reach the quarter-finals," Kudus expressed. "After our last game, we needed to bounce back, and I'm thrilled that we were able to do so. Everyone was at the top of their game, and we secured the win."
Acknowledging the quality of his teammates, Kudus emphasized his commitment to giving his best for the team whenever he gets the chance to play.
Speaking about his goal, Kudus credited Nayef Aguerd for the exceptional pass that set up his opportunity. He gratefully stated, "The pass from Nayef Aguerd was exceptional, and I didn't have to do much. I want to thank Nayef for that."
Both Bowen and Kudus will aim to carry their impressive form into West Ham's upcoming Premier League match against Brentford as they continue their pursuit of success.
