Get ready for the next installment of the Planet of the Apes franchise! After Tim Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes in 2011, the sci-fi series took a new direction. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, set in the present day, introduced us to a world where apes become the dominant species and most of humanity is wiped out by a virus. We followed the journey of Caesar, played by Andy Serkis, in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). The last film concluded with Caesar's death as he and his followers found their promised land.
With Caesar gone, the upcoming film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will introduce us to a new ape protagonist. Owen Teague, known for his roles in The Stand and the IT movies, will take on the lead role as an ape named Noa. Noa lives several generations after Caesar's death, and it remains uncertain if he is related to the late protagonist. In the trailer, Noa mentions seeing "strange things" in his dreams, something new and different. Could these visions be connected to the adventure he is about to embark on?
Freya Allan, known for her role as Ciri in The Witcher, will also join the cast of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. She will play Mae, a human living in a time where her kind has devolved into primitives due to the Simian Flu. Mae's path will cross with Noa, and their encounter will undoubtedly shape the story.
Peter Macon, recognized for his role as Lt. Commander Bortus in The Orville, will bring his talent to the Planet of the Apes universe. With the help of performance capture technology, Macon will portray an orangutan named Raka. Raka appears to be a mentor-like figure to Noa, similar to Maurice in the original Apes reboot trilogy.
Travis Jeffrey, an actor with a notable presence in Australian productions, will also be part of the cast. While he may not be familiar to audiences outside of Australia, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes could be his breakthrough into Hollywood.
Neil Sandilands, known for his roles in The 100 and The Flash, has proven his ability to portray intelligent antagonists. Whether he plays an ape or a human, Sandilands has the potential to deliver a captivating performance in this new Apes film.
Sara Wiseman, whose work mainly consists of Australian and New Zealand productions, will also join the cast. With her recent appearance in the series One Of Us Is Lying, all eyes will be on her performance in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Ras-Samuel Welda'abzgi, like Lydia Peckham, may not have an extensive acting resume, but this film could open doors for him in the industry. His previous work includes Found in a Dream and Westermarck, and he is set to appear in the upcoming Disney+ series The Clearing.
Last but not least, we have William H. Macy, arguably the biggest name in the cast. With an impressive career spanning movies like Fargo, Air Force One, and Shameless, Macy's presence adds star power to the film. While it is likely he will play a human character given his recognizable face, the question remains whether he will be a villain or an ally to the apes.
