This is how the end of Gen V connects with The Boys season 4.
The first season of The Boys spin-off, Gene V, has ended with a violent outcome and unexpected twists, setting up a new common enemy for the protagonists in the second season.
The first season of the live-action spin-off series, Gene V, based on The Boys, has concluded with its eighth and final episode on Amazon Prime Video. The season finale delivered a shocking and incredibly violent outcome, staying true to the essence of the successful franchise. The Godolkin University project has certainly lived up to expectations.
In the previous chapter, Cate shocked everyone by murdering Dean Indira. Now, she is determined to continue her mission. Maddie Phillips' character has finally broken free from years of manipulation and control through medication. Tired of being seen as a monster or a mere product, she takes matters into her own hands. Her goal is to eliminate all powerless humans and establish the supremacy of superhumans.
Despite the rest of the group's attempts to dissuade her, Sam stands by her side. Together, they manage to free the forest, dismantling all security measures. The people held captive there join their cause, led by Cate, and they embark on a massacre. The intense climax of Gene V unfolds on the campus as Marie, Andre, Jordan, and Emma strive to save as many lives as possible. However, they soon realize that the only way to end the bloodshed is to confront Cate directly.
Unfortunately, their efforts to reason with Cate prove futile, forcing Marie to push her powers to the limit. With corpses strewn across the ground, Marie taps into her abilities, transforming their blood into knives. She successfully eliminates one of the super villains, saving the upper echelons of Vought. Satisfied with her newfound power, she approaches Jordan, who has also taken a life. But then she notices Cate attempting to control her mind. Determined to resist, Marie detonates her friend's arm. In that moment, Gene V directly connects with The Boys, and two beloved characters, including Colby Minifie, make a triumphant return.
Throughout Gene V, numerous characters from The Boys have made appearances, including some members of The Seven. However, in the series finale, when Marie defeats Cate and unintentionally destroys her arm, none other than the Patriot arrives. Marie expects him to commend her for defeating her deranged friend, but to her surprise, she receives a scolding. "What kind of animal are you? Do you enjoy attacking your peers?" he reproaches. The Patriot then shoots laser beams through his eyes at Marie.
The next scene features a manipulated news program, blaming Marie, Jordan, Emma, and Andre for the University attack, while portraying Cate and Sam as heroes. The presenter asserts, "This once again proves that we are safer when superheroes like Sam and Cate protect our integrity, values, and way of life." On the other side of the screen, the Patriot smirks. Once again, his villainous acts have been twisted to appear heroic.
Meanwhile, Marie awakens in a mysterious room, realizing she is not dead. Her three friends, who are now considered villains in the eyes of the public, are by her side. Their survival means they now share a common enemy, the Patriot, and consequently, Vought. This will likely be explored in the second season of Gene V, which has already been confirmed by Amazon Prime Video. For now, they find themselves trapped in a mysterious place without any visible means of escape.
With that scene, Gene V concludes its first season. However, after the credits, the series surprises viewers with a new sequence. A mysterious figure arrives at the El Bosque facilities, only to find empty hallways after the bloodshed caused by Cate, Sam, and the other liberated individuals. As the figure advances, their true identity slowly becomes apparent. It is someone unexpected, someone the followers of The Boys did not anticipate seeing in this spin-off.
