Jared Leto climbs Empire State Building to promote his band's tour, becoming first person to legally reach the top.

In a thrilling display of daring and publicity, Jared Leto achieved the remarkable feat of climbing the Empire State Building. This was not part of a movie or TV show, but a real-life, heart-pounding adventure that was captured on camera.

This incredible accomplishment allowed the Oscar winner and frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars to make history as the first person to legally reach the top of the iconic New York landmark. Leto's daring climb was done as a promotional stunt for his band's upcoming world tour.

Following the climb, Leto appeared on NBC's "Today" show to share his excitement, declaring, "I made it. I'm alive. I made it to the top." He expressed his joy in achieving this goal and emphasized the importance of pursuing one's aspirations.

According to officials from the Empire State Building, Leto's climb was the first legal ascent to the top of the building. The 51-year-old actor and musician, who has a passion for climbing, explained that he has always been fascinated by the 1930s building. Despite facing challenges during the climb and injuring his hand, Leto expressed that the experience was truly worth it.

He described the breathtaking view from the top as "incredible" and shared his deep connection to New York City, stating, "Ever since I was a kid, New York stood for the place that you went to make your dreams come true. And as a young kid, I wanted to be an artist, and New York was the place that you came to be an artist. And the Empire State Building was always that symbol for me."

Leto's daring ascent involved a 20-minute climb up the eastern side of the 102-floor building, starting from the observation deck on the 86th floor and reaching the 104th floor, which is illuminated. From there, he climbed three tiers to the ice shield at the base of the building's iconic antenna, reaching a height of approximately 1,200 feet. (The building stands at 1,454 feet above Midtown Manhattan.)

Reflecting on the climb, Leto admitted that while he was more excited than nervous, it was an incredibly challenging endeavor. He emphasized the physical and mental stamina required for the climb, as well as the sharpness of the building's structure.

In summary, Leto's awe-inspiring climb of the Empire State Building was a thrilling and historic achievement that showcased his determination, passion, and love for adventure. His daring act not only captivated audiences but also served as a powerful reminder to pursue one's dreams and aspirations with unwavering dedication.
