Zay Jones, a 28-year-old wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was arrested on Monday on a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery causing bodily harm, according to records from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office jail. The arrest occurred on Monday, and he was scheduled for his first appearance before a judge on Tuesday.
In response to the situation, the Jacksonville Jaguars released a statement saying, "We are aware of the situation and are in the midst of gathering information. We will have no further comment at this time."
If convicted of the first-degree misdemeanor charge in Florida, Jones could face penalties of up to 180 days in jail and fines of up to $1,000. Additionally, court costs, restitution, probation, treatment, and community service may be part of the potential consequences.
Jones, currently in his second season with the Jaguars, has faced challenges with his playing time this season due to lingering knee soreness. He has participated in three games but missed the last four and six of the last seven. Despite his limited appearances, he has recorded eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
Jones began his NFL career as the Buffalo Bills' second-round pick in 2017, coming from East Carolina. After spending about two full seasons with the Bills, he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in the middle of his third season. Jones played for the Raiders through the 2021 season before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars.
