Finn Wolfhard's dream playing Scott Pilgrim comes true
"Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" reunites original cast and adds Finn Wolfhard to play the teenage version of Michael Cera's character.
The creative team behind the animated show Scott Pilgrim Takes Off went above and beyond in reuniting the cast from Edgar Wright's 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Not only did they manage to bring back vocal talents like Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Chris Evans, but they also added a new supporting cast that includes Will Forte, Kal Penn, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Bowen Yang, Griffin Newman, and Finn Wolfhard, who takes on the role of the teenage version of Cera's indie-rock bassist character.
Executive producer BenDavid Grabinski shared with EW that Wolfhard has been a huge fan of Scott Pilgrim for a long time and was eager to be a part of the show from the beginning. Wolfhard's agent even called Grabinski at 8 a.m. to express the young actor's interest in the lead role. When the casting process began, everyone from the original movie expressed their desire to return, and Wolfhard's agent called again to inquire about the role. Grabinski and fellow showrunner Bryan Lee O'Malley then came up with the idea of featuring a teenage version of Scott in a flashback and offered that role to Wolfhard, who enthusiastically accepted.
"We had a really, really fun session recording with Finn, where it felt like he was having a blast, and I think it's a great addition to the show," Grabinski said.
And so, Finn Wolfhard's dream of playing Scott Pilgrim came true in the end.
Now streaming on Netflix, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off promises to be an exciting and nostalgia-filled experience for fans of the original film. Check out the show's trailer below to see the magic unfold.
