Former Lions QB Scott Mitchell furious over Barry Sanders doc, backlash from fans
Former Lions quarterback Scott Mitchell slammed Barry Sanders' new documentary, claiming he was unfairly blamed for Sanders never winning a Super Bowl.
Barry Sanders' new documentary "Bye, Bye, Barry" just premiered on Prime Video, but not everyone is a fan. Former quarterback Scott Mitchell took to social media to express his frustration with how he was portrayed in the film, claiming that he was unfairly blamed for Sanders never winning a Super Bowl.
In a lengthy Facebook post, Mitchell initially praised Sanders' talent on the field before launching into a tirade against his critics, even calling out Detroit icons Eminem and Jeff Daniels in the process. He expressed his frustration with being constantly labeled as the reason for Sanders' lack of a championship, saying, "I'm so tired of hearing how I was not a good QB. My only response is F*** YOU ALL!!!!! That includes Eminem (and) Jeff Daniels."
Mitchell, who played for the Lions from 1994-98, also expressed disappointment with his former coach, Wayne Fontes, for openly expressing his desire for a different quarterback, such as Joe Montana or Warren Moon, to lead the team to victory. Mitchell felt that Fontes never had his back, and he also placed blame on Sanders himself, arguing that the running back had everything he needed to succeed in Detroit but failed to deliver in crucial playoff games.
In the end, Mitchell expressed his belief that the Lions could have been champions with a little more patience, but unfortunately, that was not the case. It seems unlikely that Mitchell will be receiving an invitation to the next Lions reunion after his impassioned social media outburst.
