Thiago Silva made history by becoming the oldest player to feature for the Blues at 39 years old, with Mauricio Pochettino recalling Benoit Badiashile and Lesley Ugochukwu to the lineup.

Chelsea's troubles continued in the second half, with club captain Reece James receiving a red card in the 73rd minute. Newcastle added a fourth goal late in the game when Miguel Almiron set up Gordon to score.
