Billie Eilish discusses coming out: "I didn't realize people didn't know"

Billie Eilish opens up about her attraction to women, saying she didn't realize people didn't know. She's up for six Grammy nominations.

21-year-old pop superstar Billie Eilish recently spoke about her attraction to women in a magazine interview and clarified her comments at Variety's annual Hitmakers Brunch event. Eilish stated that she did not intend to come out in the article and questioned why it was not obvious. She expressed her disbelief in the concept of coming out and emphasized her desire to simply exist without the need for labels. Eilish also shared her initial reaction to the publication of her words, admitting that she was nervous to talk about it but ultimately expressed her support for women. Additionally, Eilish discussed her deep connections with women and her feelings of intimidation and admiration for them.

During Variety's Power of Women event, Eilish delivered an emotional acceptance speech where she expressed her pride in her womanhood and her gratitude for being a woman. She acknowledged her past insecurities and internalized misogyny, but emphasized her growth and appreciation for other women. Eilish's achievements in her career were also highlighted, including her six Grammy nominations for the upcoming 66th annual awards ceremony.

Eilish's nominations include Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, Best Music Video, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Despite not releasing a studio album in the past year, Eilish has received recognition as one of the 12 most-nominated acts for the 2024 Grammy Awards. The ceremony will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Feb. 4.
